Year 5 Curriculum Notes 11.03.19

What a great week it has been in Year 5! Well done to all of the children for their excellent book recommendations on World Book Day! All of the costumes looked fabulous too. We have really enjoyed performing arts day too.

Next week in Literacy we will be focusing on writing and creating our own Mayan myths. We will need to include our Mayan God that we created last week.

In creative curriculum we will be making Mayan Gods out of clay in the afternoons and carving Mayan patterns into bars of soap! In PE, we will be continuing our work in football and netball with the outside coaches. We will be aiming to get faster and more accurate with touch typing too.

In Numeracy we will be working with decimals, adding and subtracting them. We will also be tackling some tricky reasoning questions using percentages.

Homework:

Miss Fowkes’s maths group: to answer the fluency and reasoning questions about percentages and decimal equivalents.

Mr B’s group: To answer the reasoning questions for addition and subtraction.

Literacy Homework:

To write a range of relative clauses using who, which and where. The topic of the sentences should be a Mayan theme. Here are some examples to help you get started!

The Mayans, who were creative, were very intelligent.

The chief, who made sacrifices, was the leader.

Tikal, where the Mayans lived, is one of the largest historical sites.

Have a great weekend! 🙂
