Year 4 Curriculum Notes Week Beginning 07/10/19

This week we will be focusing on SPAG in literacy. We will be using a range of conjunctions, fronted adverbials, commas, expanded noun phrases and adverbs. We will then use these skills to up level a piece of work. Friday will be comprehension.

This week’s reading target: Understand what they read, in books they can read independently, by: checking that the text makes sense to them, discussing their understanding and explaining the meaning of words in context.

In maths this week we will continue to focus on addition and subtraction. We are working hard on adding and subtracting 2,3 & 4 digit numbers mentally, with jottings to support. Friday is mental maths, where children complete 50Club, and mental arithmetic. We are trying to have a big push on timetables and would appreciate all you support by practicing as often as possible at home too.

In the creative we will continue with football and we will also introduce children to dodgeball. In computing we will be using last week’s research to create a questionnaire/ quiz about the Ancient Greeks. We will also begin to look at Buddhism and hopefully start French.

In science on Tuesday children will need to bring in their own toothpaste and a toothbrush in a plastic bag to keep them safe. We will be using disclosure tablets to identify plaque on our teeth and talking about how to keep out teeth healthy. We will distribute a letter on Friday so please could you sign it and bring back in to school by Tuesday at the latest to avoid any disappointment.

THE ABOVE EVENT HAS NOW BEEN MOVED TO THURSDAY 10TH DUE TO A VISITING DENTIST. PLEASE BRING YOUR TOOTHBRUSH AND TOOTHPASTE THURSDAY NOT TUESDAY. THNAK YOU.

On Tuesday there is a dodgeball competition after school. 10 children have been selected for the squad. If your child has been selected, they should have come home with a letter providing you with all the details. Please could you complete and sign this by Monday at the latest.
