Hello Year 4 and Parents,
HAPPY FRIDAY!! We hope you’re all okay and have had a lovely week. Do you have anything nice planned for the weekend?
Phonics: Continue to recap all sounds using flash cards and games on https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/
Spelling Rule: To explore and spell plural words with the possessive apostrophe.
(Please see Monday’s post)
Have a go and see how many of your spellings you can spell correctly from this half term.
Let’s have a look at the activities planned for you today…
Today you are going to be using the data of birthdays in Year 4 and presenting it in a variety of ways (Table, pictogram and bar chart). You will need to think carefully about labelling axis, titles, keys etc.
Once you have presented the data, we would like you to come up with a minimum of 5 questions which could be asked based on the data you have presented. You need to think carefully about simple interpretation questions (e.g. Which month has the most amount of birthdays?), comparison/difference (e.g. How many more children celebrated their birthday in March than December?) and sum (e.g. Which 3 months total up to x amount of children celebrating their birthday?)
Problem of the day:
Literacy: Play Scripts
So your play script should be two-thirds of the way written now! You’re almost there!
We bet you can’t guess what you task is today! That’s right, it’s time to write the ending of your play script to complete it!
Once you have written your play script, read through and check it all makes sense and you have included all of the key features. You may want to think about editing along the way to up-level your work.
You could even ask your family if they would like to act it out with you.
Well done everyone on writing your own play script. It’s not easy but we hope you have all enjoyed being imaginative! You could even tweet these so we can have a little look at them.
Today we would like you to read a book of your choice for 20 minutes.
Task: In your own words, write a short paragraph to briefly summarise what happened in the last chapter you read.
Creative Curriculum: Science/Art
As the weather is beautiful this week, we would like you to take your learning outside. Sit in your garden at different times of the day (Morning/Afternoon/Evening) and listen carefully to the sounds you can hear. We would like you to draw and label the different sounds you hear and what it is or could be creating this sound. Listen to sounds close by in your garden and also listen out for the sounds in the distance.
What can you hear?
What time of day could you hear the most amount of different sounds?
What time of day was the loudest/quietist time of day?
What is a consistent sound you can hear throughout the day?
Think of another place in the world and imagine you are here. What sounds would be similar to those heard from your garden. What sounds do you think you would hear from this place? E.g. Beach- we might here the waves crashing onto the beach.
Act of kindness: Give your family a hug and say thank you for something they do for you.
Today we would have been breaking up for May half term. You have all been working extremely hard over the past few weeks and you all deserve a well-earned break. Therefore, we will not be setting any home learning tasks next week. The only thing we would like you to do is have fun, relax and enjoy some free time!
We hope you all have a lovely half term and we will continue your home learning tasks from Monday 1st June, posting it on WordPress Sunday 31st May.
A bientôt, espère!
Meaning… ‘Hope to see you soon!’
