Curriculum Notes for week beginning 19.10.20
The children have come home with a number of letters today so we hope they have given them to you!!
If you would still like to buy a book from our Virtual Book Fair, it has been extended until Monday! Check the website for further details.
A big thank you to all the children who have completed last week’s homework, we loved reading all the emails we received! There are a number of children who haven’t yet completed this task which was to change their email password and reply to the email in their inbox so check last week’s post for an explanation!
Our spelling focus next week is adding the suffixes -er, -est and -y to one syllable words.
Year 3/4 Common Exception words to spell: build, busy and business
For homework this week, we have asked the children to check they can spell all the spellings sent home this Half Term and that they understand the spelling rules we have covered. Next week, during one of our Literacy lessons, we will be testing the spelling of a range of these words within some dictated sentences.
In Literacy next week, we will also be exploring prepositions in our SPaG lesson and will be editing some of our writing completed over the last few weeks.
Our reading focus in our group sessions next week will be: Word Reading – decoding (LO: Apply their growing knowledge of root words, prefixes and suffixes (etymology and morphology), both to read aloud and to understand the meaning of new words they meet.)
In Maths, Miss Reilly will be teaching data handling and Mrs Elvins will be linking knowledge of doubles, halves and even numbers to the 2x table and exploring right angles.
We have asked the children to log-on to Mathseeds again and spend at least 15 minutes on the next lesson on their Learning Map and complete at least 3 ‘Mental Minutes’ over the week.
Both Maths groups are still working on the tables facts and the inverse division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables but will be moving on to the 3x table after Half Term. Use Hit the Button to continue practising quick tables and division recall as well as ‘Mental Minute’ x or ÷ on Mathseeds! Click on the picture below to go to the Hit the Button website.
